Abstract
Spot Dike J (47PI559) is a multi-component archaeological site, located along the Mississippi River in Pierce County, WI. It was surveyed in 2003 by the USACE, and the recovered artifacts constituted the focus of this project. Through mapping material distribution across the site, as well as analysis of 47PI559 against comparable sites and the available literature, the original site classification as ‘campsite/village’ was determined to be accurate insofar as it is a sufficiently broad term. This project expanded knowledge regarding the timeframe for 47PI559’s occupation, the particulars of its use, and its role within the broader regional and national contexts.
