Description
The Dakota County Library system in the Twin Cities suburban area converted two spaces in the Wescott branch to become an iLAB makerspace in 2016. From 3D printing/digital scanning to sewing/fabric crafts, photo scanning, and audio/video production, library staff selected equipment for the iLAB, learned basics of the equipment to get customers started, and have been working through first-year startup challenges. Are you thinking of adding maker equipment to your library? Join us to: * Hear about public library makerspace experiences from the perspectives of a Branch Manager, a Librarian and a Library IT Specialist. * Learn about equipment purchasing, setup, ongoing maintenance issues, and the pros/cons of adding specific pieces of equipment and software. * Gather ideas on how to tackle the training challenges of adding many consumer and professional tools without any additional staff.
