Description
Many libraries are finding it beneficial to create video tutorials. They are helpful in freeing up class time for more complex topics, they provide users with 24/7 access to library instruction, and they are invaluable for distance education students. Once the tutorials are created, the next question becomes one of publishing or hosting those tutorials. In this session, participants will be introduced to using YouTube as an option for placing videos online. Participants will also be shown how to create a YouTube account and learn some of the benefits and drawbacks to placing materials onto YouTube. The presenters will discuss the decision to have separate YouTube accounts for the different libraries on campus. In addition, the need for policies regarding the management and use of YouTube will be discussed. The YouTube Policies and Procedures for the University of Iowa Library system will be presented as a potential model for other institutions. While the session focuses on issues surrounding video tutorials, much of the information would translate well for the use of YouTube for a variety of video needs.
