Gaming as a Means for Collaboration

Description

Discussions about gaming in academic and public libraries online and in publications have often centered around gaming as a marketing tool or its applications in information literacy. Although these ideas have been part of the motivation in establishing gaming at Montana Tech University library, an additional goal is being reached through our “gaming corner” in the establishment of a partnership between the library and the Computer Science and Technical Communication departments. This presentation will examine the creation of the gaming corner, the challenges in its establishment, and the contributions each partner has made to the project. Small group discussions will contribute additional insights into the different ways that gaming is being used in other libraries, as well as how gaming programs are being promoted and their impact assessed.
