How do I get to Macalester College?
Macalester College is located at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Snelling Avenue in St. Paul. The street address for the College is 1600 Grand Avenue in St. Paul.
exit on Snelling Avenue and go south on Snelling Avenue to Grand Avenue. Turn right (west) on Grand Avenue and go one block. Turn left (south) on Macalester Street and follow signs to visitor parking. From the north on Interstate 35... take 35E into St. Paul. Exit to Interstate 94 westbound, and follow the directions above. From the south on Interstate 35... take I-35E into St. Paul. Exit at Ayd Mill Road (exit #104B). At second light, take a left onto Grand Avenue (westbound). One block after crossing Snelling Avenue, turn left (south) onto Macalester Street. Follow signs to visitor parking. From the airport... follow the signs for St. Paul/Highway 5. After you cross the river, exit right onto Edgcumbe Road (keep left as you exit) and follow for 1 mile; stay to the left and take Fairview Avenue. Follow Fairview Avenue for 2 miles. Where should I park once I arrive at Macalester?
Parking at Macalester College is free and requires no 'campus parking permit'. Library Technology Conference participants are encouraged to park using the large parking areas located just to the west and south of the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center. Please follow the signs posted which will direct you to these parking areas. While limited street parking is available, this is NOT recommended for conference participants. Many areas near campus have limits of two hours on street parking and these limits are monitored closely by the St. Paul Police Department. Violators will be ticketed. Back to Main | Back to Top |
What's the best way to get to campus from the conference hotels?
Shuttle service from each of the conference hotels is being planned at the beginning of each day before sessions begin with return service available after the last conference sessions each day. We recommend using this shuttle service.
Driving directions from conference hotels: (please allow 15-20 minutes from each hotel) Starting at the St. Paul's Embassy Suites Hotel (175 East 10th Street, St Paul)... -- Head southwest on East 10th Street and take the first left onto Jackson Street. -- Turn left at East 7th Street/Fort Road. Continue to follow East 7th Street taking the ramp onto I-94 West. -- Take the Snelling Ave Exit (exit 238). -- Turn left at Snelling Ave heading south to Grand Avenue (about 0.8 miles). -- Turn right at Grand Avenue and then turn left at Macalester Street following signs to parking. Starting at the Sheraton Midtown Hotel Minneapolis (2901 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis)... -- Turn left onto East Lake Street. Continue heading east on Lake to the Mississppi River. --Once you cross the Mississppi River into St. Paul, Lake Street becomes Marshall Avenue. Continue on Marshall to Snelling Avenue. -- Turn right at Snelling Ave and continue on Snelling to Grand Avenue. -- Turn right at Grand Avenue and then turn left at Macalester Street following signs to parking. Will wireless internet access be available?
All conference meeting and event spaces will have free wireless internet access available. Conference participants will simply need to select "Macalester-Guest" from among the wireless network options available. Will there be public access computers where attendees can check email?

Should I bring my laptop computer?
Can I attend BYO (bring your own) laptop session if I won't have laptop with me?
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptop to the conference, if possible. Wireless intenet access will be available in all presentation spaces. Many of the sessions are labeled as 'BYO (bring your own)Laptop' sessions. Conference attendees who bring their own laptop will be able to more fully take advantage of these sessions, however having a laptop is not required to attend. What meals are included in the registration fee?
Each day of the conference, a continental breakfast will be provided during the morning registration/checkin time slot, lunch featuring both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options around the noon hour, as well as an afternoon break featuring food and beverage selections. In addition, beverage service including continuous coffee will be provided throughout the day. All included in the conference registration fee.

Is it possible to get refund if unable to attend?
A full refund of the conference registration fee is available to people who find themselves unable to attend if the refund request is received in writing (email to betsworth@macalester.edu is acceptable) prior to March 1st. Refund requests received in writing on or after March 1st but before March 12th will receive a refund of registration fees minus a $25 processing fee. No refund is available after March 12th.

Does the MIDTOWN SHERATON offer a shuttle to/from the airport?
Unfortunately, the Midtown Sheraton do not go to airport. However, conference participants staying at the Midtown Sheraton can take the Light Rail train and get off at the Lake Street/Midtown/Hiawatha station and the hotel shuttle will pick you up from station at no cost. Light Rail costs about $2.00 one way.
When guests get on the Light Rail you should call the Sheraton Shuttle at 612-366-8485 or the hotel directly at 612-821-7600 and tell them they just got on Light Rail. It is exactly 8 stops to the Lake Street Station so about 12-15 minutes. The hotel shuttle van will meet you at the station. Back to Main | Back to Top |
