With limited and shrinking sources of funding, libraries are struggling to find ways to make their collections accessible to a wider public. Over the last four years, the Minnesota Historical Society has developed an ecommerce system that allows us to provide limited research services to the public while recouping some of the costs. Alison Purgiel and Hampton Smith of the MHS Collections and Reference Department describe how materials are selected for ecommerce and examine both the challenges and rewards of the MHS ecommerce system.
