Fast, Cheap and Out of Control: Low-budget Technology Programs for the Non-experts

Any library can host a technology workshop for youth; doing so requires neither large sums of money nor technological expertise. There are many free software downloads available that can be used as a basis for these programs--some are experimental and entirely free, while others are available as a free trial. We will highlight some of these programs, describe our experience working with them, and provide tips for hosting your own workshops using these programs. In addition, we will walk the participants through a hands-on workshop in order to model teaching techniques and best practices. Workshop participants will leave with a list of suggested workshops and materials needed for those workshops, as well as a sample outline for leading a Scratch workshop.
