Description

Google Apps offers many tools for staff and students alike, including documents, websites, calendar, gmail, and much more. Staff members can use them for collaboration across time, not depending on location. They enable one to use features in one location, then save and access them in another without requiring flash drives or other forms of memory. They are also available on all platforms, further facilitating collaboration. This session will focus mainly on the experience in a K-12 school system but will address higher education and other library uses as well. We will first describe the experience of rolling out Google Apps across a school district with more than 25 sites and including over 13,000 users in grades 6 - 12. Many of the projects which have been implemented will be discussed and some viewed, with permission of the owners. Also included will be reasons for choosing to implement the project, training and support for staff, and some of the pitfalls which appeared. In addition, we will address the refresh of the AASL, ISTE and MEMO standards and how Google Apps can be used to meet them for students and teachers.

A portion of this presentation will be hands on, as attendees will be able to log in and use some of the beneficial features of Google Apps. Attendees are asked to create a Google account in advance to facilitate use of the Apps.
