So, You’ve Got a Learning Commons. What Now?

Description

The CSUN Oviatt Library implemented a Learning Commons in the Summer of 2013 that brought about many challenges and changes to the library. However, this was only the beginning and many opportunities and services were yet to be implemented or even envisioned. Since then many new services have been added to the original Learning Commons, a Creative Media Studio has been developed, and a Media Wall has added additional value to services that encompasses the Library’s entire first floor. In this traditional type session, we will review the vision of the Learning Commons and how it has and continues to impact all aspects of the Library through technology and services. From laptop lending to 3D printing to Media Wall programing, we will explore planning, funding, decision making, next steps, and lessons learned. Whether you are in charge of the budget, finding funding, setting up a service point, installing the hardware/software, etc. each area will be addressed in this session.
