From traditional to cutting-edge: Globe University makes the leap to OCLC’s Web-scale Management Service

OCLC’s Web-scale Management Service (WMS) is a cloud-based library system that runs entirely over the web. There is no software to install and all data is accessed through a browser. The system is built on the WorldCat database and the interface is clear and user-friendly. Globe University/Minnesota School of Business was faced with dramatically increasing costs for the Aleph integrated library system, and general dissatisfaction with the staff interface. WMS became our top choice as a replacement for Aleph. In June of 2011 we began the process of preparing to migrate to OCLC’s WMS and by October we were live on the system. This session will describe the migration and implementation process as well as discuss the benefits the library gained from the move to WMS.
