How to Create a Mashup Using Google Maps

This workshop is geared towards people who are curious about how technology can be used to offer new services to patrons in a variety of creative ways. It will be hands on in nature giving you the opportunity to combine several different types of technology that are considered to be web 2.0 into a web page that you will create during the workshop. The goal of the workshop is to give you the opportunity to create a mashup that can be used as a model for future reference and/or to directly incorporate the mashup into your libraries web site. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about a variety of different types of mashups that have been created and explore how you can combine different services together that you are currently offering to library patrons.

The workshop will consist of three different sections. The first one will introduce mashups and will explore the different types of technologies that can be used to create one. In the second section of the workshop we will create a map with directions between two points using Google Maps, which is a popular tool that people are using to create mashups. During the last section we will create a web page that will display the map that was created using Google Maps and at least one other type of technology that was discussed during the introduction. This will be a chance for you to combine any social media tools that you are currently using into a single web page.
