Classics is the critical study of languages, cultures, and literature of the ancient world. The societies of ancient Greece and Rome, the Mediterranean world, the Middle East, and cultures with faces toward the Orient are the terrain of Classics. Many of our traditions rest upon the world of the Greeks and Romans. Greek, Latin, and Hebrew literature are studied in the Classics Department.
